If a party starts at 8 pm, what time should I arrive?

As with most party rules, it depends a bit on the type of event. For an event that depends on a schedule, like a dinner party or book club, arrive between 8 and 8:15. If it's a casual event, like a barbecue or large house party, get there around 8:30. Whatever you do, don't show up early unless the host has asked you to. Even if you offer to help, you'll still be a hindrance.
